- At Nelson
Elementary, we value music and the arts and believe in the importance
of providing our students with quality opportunities for music
education and performance. There are various opportunities at
different times in a student's years at Nelson for them to be
involved in special groups and performances.
-
- General Music
- In addition
to general music classes,
which are available to all students (K-6) and which are taught
by Mr. Hoye, one specific grade-level (which can
vary from year to year) is selected to perform a musical production each year. Drama, music and costumes are
part of this event, which is always fun for kids and entertaining
for families and friends. This event is also produced by Mr. Hoye.
-
- Orchestra
- Fourth-graders at Nelson have their first
chance to participate in a school instrumental music group by
getting involved in string orchestra. These students not
only rehearse but also have performance opportunities during
the year. These string students may continue on in orchestra
in fifth and sixth grade as well.

- Depending
on schedules, a student may want to AND be able to take more
than one music performance group (for example, band AND choir,
choir AND orchestra, etc.). If a student is interested in this,
he/she should discuss it with each of the music teachers involved.
